Sintering of Ceramics
Résumé
This chapter gives an overview of surface and bulk matter transport processes occurring during the densification of ceramic powder compacts. Starting from purified or chemically synthesized raw materials, sintering takes place by either solid state or liquid phase mechanisms during heat treatment which can be supplemented by use of microwaves, external pressure, or electric current. The type of sintering mechanism and processing technique used directly influences the microstructural development of the ceramic. Comparisons between the various sintering techniques are presented.
