Transmission Energy Analysis And Modeling Of A Video Sensor Node In The Context Of Next Generation WVSN

Abstract

Energy consumption is of main concern in the field of Next generation Wireless Video Sensor Networks (WVSN) where energy resources are limited, consisting only in the battery of sensor nodes that determines the node's lifetime. In the current work, Intra-Only H.265/HEVC is considered as video compression encoder deployed on a Raspberry PI 2 Card. Particularly, we propose to manage at run-time the energy consumed for video transmission. Thus, we begin our study by profiling the evolution of this quantity based on two coding parameters, namely the frame rate (FR) and the quantization parameter (QP). Following an analysis of the obtained results, we propose an empirical parametric model in line with the observed behaviors, then validate it with several various video sequences
