Abstract

In these recent years, many organizations have started to consider the importance of green manufacturing and take steps towards this new responsibility. Manufacturers try to achieve an end of life, a cost-effective and a green solution, enabling them to answer effectively to the future legislation regarding responsibility of their products. In this context re-manufacturing, as a solution for green manufacturing, can be defined as the reconstructing or reassembling of a used product by using a combination of process. In order to be feasible, re-manufacturing should answer not only to the legislation, but also it should be profitable for the companies. So, from the phase of conception, it is necessary to design the products such that they can be easily disassembled, cleaned, tested, and re-assembled to have a new life and a new value. Design for re-manufacturing is a new domain of research which try to bring the efficiency through the design while increasing the profitability of the companies. This paper tries to study the literature of design for re-manufacturing and it gives an overview of the existing approaches and models of the design for re-manufacturing. Its aim is showing how the design contributes to re-manufacturing. This research could be used as a guide for future research in the domain of design for re-manufacturing or design for green manufacturing.
