Recognition of dissonances between use rules and operation rules of a human-machine system
Recherche de dissonances entre règles d’usage et de fonctionnement d’un système homme-machine
Résumé
This paper presents an original approach for the research of dissonances that can exist between rules of use and functioning of a human-machine system. It aims at discovering potential conflicts between individual, collective or organizational rules. Three kinds of dissonances are identified regarding a representation of the rules by the Petri net formalism: 1) affordances dedicated to the creation of new rules, 2) contradictions when incoherency exists between rules of a same decision-maker or user, and 3) interferences when the application of rules coming from different decision-makers or users may lead to problems. A case study is discussed: it concerns the research of dissonances between rules of car drivers related to the control of the car or of events and rules of the use and the functioning of an Automated Speed Control system (ASC). Results show that the proposed approach is useful for improving the design or the use of systems such as ASC.
