Experimental and high velocity impact studies on hybrid armor using metallic and 3D textile composites
Résumé
Hybridization of protective solution to high speed fragment has been studied to highlight the efficiency of a backing lightweight material with an existing metallic armor plate. Different lightweight structure as composite material with different types of fibrous reinforcement and resin have been designed, produced and tested. The 3D warp interlock fabric made with high strength resistance yarns and impregnated by a thermoplastic resin have shown a higher dynamic elongation during the impact, leading to a higher range level of speed limit of perforation while keeping the integrity of the woven structure close to the impact point
