Meshless modelling of low-velocity impacting damage for composite laminates

Résumé

The aim of this paper is to predict the low velocity impact damage in composite laminates through meshless Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. SPH shell model is developed based on the First-Order Shear Deformation Theory as well as explicit time integration using central difference method. The contact force is determined by the modified Hertzian contact model and the impact-induced damage is predicted by Tsai-Wu criterion. Several examples are investigated to demonstrate the accuracy of the present SPH model by comparing the results to those available in the literature.
