Data Access and Ambient Computing

Abstract

This chapter examines the challenges related to data access in ambient environments, concentrating on the basic mechanisms that provide users with the information s/he needs. It aims to demonstrate how data access techniques have been revisited to face the problems introduced by mobile devices and to highlight some of the challenges that need to be addressed to provide adequate access to data in the context of ambient computing. The chapter subsequently introduces the different types of queries such as continuous queries, and location queries used in ambient environments and then examines some of the different evaluation models.
