Simulation of Urban Transport Systems
Résumé
This chapter focuses on transport systems of people in urban spaces, both guided and non-guided, and the simulation of associated processes. The authors recall the whole context of simulation of urban transport systems and the different types of models used, particularly microsimulation. The chapter provides a brief overview of the areas covered by urban simulation, and of the different models used. An overview of the software tools used, especially those available on the market is also provided. The chapter presents two simulators developed through research. The first is a simulator of multimodal guided urban transport systems, which is used to validate a prototype system to help control traffic for a bimodal tram-bus network. The second is based on the principle of self-organization aiming to improve traffic flow of individual vehicles by exploiting a navigational help system based on early traffic detection
