Résumé

Bone is a tissue that has the ability of self-regeneration leading this healing process in most of the cases to a fully morphologic and functional regeneration. However, in some situations, its healing capabilities can be surpassed, and bone grafts are frequently required for implant surgery. Autologous bone grafts remains the gold standard in alveolar ridge reconstruction because of its biological properties but the quantity of bone tissue is limited, and alternatives had to be developed. The most frequent alternative to auograft graft are Xeno and Allograft. These materials show poorer biological properties in comparison to autografts and a risk of disease transmission but offer an unlimited amount of tissue. In order to find an ideal bone substitute which could present the ideal biological properties of the autograft combined with an unlimited source of material and limited cost, bone tissue engineering has been developed. To date, different options have been developed in this field but one of the most promising is based on the apatites, already applied during dental implant procedures.
